S4HANA - Role Of LSMW in S4HANA Migration and its Limitations

As many clients intended to move from Traditional ECC 6  system to S/4 HANA system, there is

always a  question about Data Migration of Master and Transactional Data from ECC to S/4HANA

We are know, LSMW a data migration tool is being offered in ECC system by SAP to migrated data from Legacy system to SAP.

There are numerous questions around LSMW, whether we can use LSMW even in S/4HANA ?

1.   At first is LSMW offered to S/4HANA customers ?

2.   What are the Advantages and Disadvantages of LSMW ?

3.  If LSMW is not suitable, what other alternatives available in S4HANA?

Lets check answers for above questions which will give us a great insight on Data Migration in S/4HANA

LSMW- A Legacy system Migration Cockpit which is used in our Tradition ECC system for migration of Data from Legacy to ECC 6. No special introduction is needed to this tool as it is available for use from R/2 Architectures with many new Functionalities added in every stage of Business suite such as R/3, Netweaver ...

This tool is even available in S/4HANA , but with restrictions. What are those Restrictions? Can we get any support if Client is oriented to this tool from SAP

>>> So the answer is, Restrictions are many such as LSMW is used with standard interfaces like
BATCH INPUT
DIRECT  INPUT
RECORDING
keeping in view the ECC system and Non-HANA data base.

Also there are many simplifications in terms of certain functionalities such as Business Partner for example cannot be supported in LSMW in any interface of LSMW Tool

SAP recommends not to use LSMW for any data migration and it is Clients discretion if wanted to use so. There would be no support if client runs into issues while using this tool
This triggers question on what are the alternatives to LSMW...,

SAP Recommends

Option 1:--- MIGRATION COCKPIT & MIGRATION OBJECT MODELLER.

We have standard Migration objects available since initial version of S4HANA and by now 1909 almost every object is available for migration ( as far as 1909 - On premise version, there are 280 + objects available )

We can use migration of data using Predefine Templates to generate the data or Staging Tables ( Staging tables are available from 1709 onwards)

We also have another option from 1909 , which is direct transfer of data from ECC as source to S4HANA. Here you need to map your soure and target systems which is more simplified than above two options

Option 2: RAPID DATA MIGRATION

This option is based on Data Services and migration objects are available in this option too . As per recent update, SAP is not going to improve this as there would be more updates henceforth only for Migration Cockpit than RDS.
As this is using Data Services, we need to get separate license to make use of Data services and it is not part of S4HANA license

Option 3: SAP LANDSCAPE TRANSFORMATION

This option is also not available as Inbuilt in S4HANA license, which means a separate license is required for it and license also varies based on the functionality and source and target Architecture

It is widely used for Central Finance Migration.

SAP PM/CS / EAM : Refurbishment Process

Refurbishment A refurbishment order is a standard Maintenance Order type. In customizing for order, we first create an order type ( such as PM04) In the configuration we have to create a new order type in OIOA and activate this for Refurbishment process. Process flow: Business process steps 1. Damaged equipment/ spares if can be repaired will be done by the PM order of type PM04 2. Equipment/Spares needs repairing should have the item code if it is serialized item then with the serial number. 3. Item should have the valuation type for repair category too. 4. Create PR through refurbishment order for repair of the item with split valuation type of repair. Proper G/L codes and order for the repair indent should be provided in the indent 5. After approval of the requisition, the requisition and item should be send to the stores/Purchase section for further actions. 6. Stock will get updated after MIGO of the item 7. The activity type cost

TO MAKE INACTIVE CONDITION ACTIVE IN SAP

This blogger contains details on how to set an INACTIVE CONDITION  to ACTIVE while processing Sales Order content: 1.  BUSINESS REQUIREMENT Due to some legal restrictions in Russia, Russia Local Plant cannot hold any stock for the material and hence it is non valuated which means the Standard Price is Zero ( 0 $ ) The stock will be replenished from another company code and we used our Standard Third Party process  in which PR is created which will be converted to PO and when we do GR, the Standard Price of that plant is calculated in the GR. The baseline pricing structure is mapped in such a way that VPRS is calculated from the Material master and on which 15% markup is added as base price. Since the Cost price in VPRS condition is Zero Markup calculated on VPRS will be obviously calculates to Zero and both conditions were set as INACTIVE as per the condition properties 2.  CREATE SALES ORDER we will create a sales order for a material, whose standard Price

S4HANA-Project Systems Operative Indicators in WBS- CJ20N
